report cards

Today, we got Jason's FIRST report card. I was really happy with it and we have seen SO much progress in him in just 3 short months. He constantly wants to write and read words and he is finally adjusting well to this new environment. Even on weekends now he asks "is today a school day??" and seems disappointed when it's not.

The report card only shows whether or not he is "on target with the curriculum", "progressing", or "emerging". Jason scored as "on target" in almost all areas. He scored as "progressing" in identifying a rhyme but not in producing a rhyme (?!) and in 3 out of the 4 writing areas (on page 2 which is not seen here). It looks like he needs a bit of work there as he mixes up small letters with capital letters in one word. Overall, his teacher said he is a pleasure to have in class and is moving very well along the kindergarten curriculum! We are really proud of him! He really has come a long way in such a short time.

Today, we also had a a parent-teacher conference on Rachel as well. She scored above average, overall, in her skills and developmental areas for her age. There was one section of the assessment she refused to do and that lowered her score quite a bit, so we are pleased to see her at "above average" despite that. We were told that Rachel is very empathetic towards other kids. When another child cries in class, she always goes to the child to see if she can help out. Also, she is very independent. While many kids go to play in a certain area of the class where his/her friends are, Rachel will do that too but also will go to different centers in a certain area of the class even if none of her friends are there. (Miss Independence!) She really is socializing well for her age. At this same age, Jason was attached to Landon and didn't socialize all that much outside of him. Rachel attaches "somewhat" to 2 kids more than others, in her class but the director said "there aren't any kids that don't like Rachel and there aren't any kids that Rachel doesn't like". I LOVE that!!
