first grade update

Jason is doing really well adjusting to first grade! He has SEVEN friends now and really seems excited to go to school each day. The first week of school, he would be the same way, but he would cry at bedtime saying he is scared of his bad dreams and monsters. He no longer does this and I am thrilled about that!

Mason Schools are very technologically savvy! There is a website, edline.net which the teacher posts progress notes on, the class newsletter and anything and everything else we need to know! She puts all sorts of resources and things we can do with the kids to enhance their learning out there as well. We even put money on Jason's meal card on a different website and can check what he eats each day!

Mrs Jenny put out the progress so far in the various subjects in her class. There is a slight reading concern... Jason should know all 3 lists of read/write (sight) words by the end of the first trimester and he only knows the first list. She didn't even classify him as "progressing" in this area - she classified him as "emerging". We need to work harder with him on this. Otherwise, all the notes look good! I love that we get such regular updates from his teacher. Mrs Jenny is known for being the most thorough on this of all the first grade teachers. We'll keep a close eye on his reading.
