This past week, we have had my dad critically ill in the ICU and 2 sick kids. Today, Jason got the same stomach bug Rachel had earlier in the week. He seems to have felt worse but Rachel got sick more than he did. When does it end?
Yesterday, we learned that the withdraw of care for my dad was put off until Monday morning. Two doctors have to sign off on the order. One already has and the neurosurgeon has not...yet. While he is in agreement that he will not have any quality of life should he survive, he wants to do a full neurological exam without my dad being on any sedatives. Apparently, one of the sedatives he was on can stay in the body for up to 60 hours. So now we wait until Monday morning. We were told the outcome will be the same, but this is part of "protocol". None of us understand why we were presented with the recommendation of withdrawing care without this exam having been done first. There was definitely a mistake made here that we are not happy about.
I think that after a week and a half of this ICU stuff, all of us are now suffering from our own brain issues.
